Book Launch at Fortismere!
Sita Brahamachari, Fortismere’s Patron of Reading for four years, asked if we could hold the launch of her latest book in our library. Of course, we said yes, it would be an honour. So we hung up the bunting and on Friday 15th January, Sita and her publisher (Barrington Stoke) together with 40 students invited from Years 7 and 8 and members of our staff had a wonderful afternoon celebrating the book birthday of Car Wash Wish.
Sita talked about many of the more serious aspects of her books – dementia, Asperger’s syndrome, family life, pressures on young people – in a sensitive and spell-binding way. We also had lots and lots of laughs and the students produced postcards written to people that mean a lot to them. Several shared what they had written with the group, which can be a really hard thing to do, so we congratulate them on their wonderful confidence. And of course, in true party style, there were snacks and drinks and the most amazing book birthday cake!
