GEORGIA MORRIS PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD 2024 WINNERS

The winning entries for the annual Georgia Morris Photography Award have been announced and this year the First prize went to Year 8 student Aviana Petrou for her wonderful photo of a cat and its reflection (image on the right)

At the end of last term, we launched our annual photography competition for students in Years 7-9, The Georgia Morris Photography Award.  Georgia Morris was a Fortismere student for only a year before she sadly passed away in 2016 after a brave fight against cancer.  Georgia was passionate about photography and she loved Fortismere and the creativity that thrived within it.  She always had a camera around her neck and loved capturing the world around her; she was particularly inspired by nature and wildlife.  As a tribute to Georgia her family created the Georgia Morris Photography Prize in the hope that this will encourage other young students to take up photography and to study it at school as Georgia would have loved to have done.

The theme this year was “freedom in nature” and we were just amazed at the sheer quality and creativity of all the entries.  There really were no bad photos, it's just that some were exceptional and gave us a genuinely difficult job of choosing a shortlist, never mind the top three and a winner!  But we had to do so, and we chose three images which are all quite different but very imaginative and beautifully captured. We know that Georgia would have been proud of taking any of them, and indeed many of the other entries we received.

Very well done to this year's winner Aviana Petrou for her photo (which you can see above) The runners-up were Ava Connolly (Y7) and Saule Rimkeviciute (Y7)

2nd Prize - Ava Connolly
3rd Prize - Saule Rimkeviciute
