COURSES

Students in the Fortismere Sixth Form take three A Levels or one Level 3 BTEC qualification, except for those choosing Further Maths, who take four A Levels (Maths, Further Maths, and two others).

If a student strongly believes that it would be in their interests to study four A Levels, we will consider their request in line with our guidance document here.  However, universities do not ask for four A Levels as a part of their admissions requirements and taking three A Levels is no barrier to gaining places on the most competitive courses at the best universities.

One consequence of choosing three A Level subjects or one BTEC qualification to study across the two years of Sixth Form is that students need to be sure they have picked the right course of study, one which will interest them and allow them to succeed to their full potential.  We would encourage Year 11 students to discuss and reflect upon possible choices with their teachers and parents/carers, as well as carry out their own research, in order to make the most informed choices possible.

The information on the subject pages about the courses on offer in Fortismere Sixth Form will support you in making an informed choice.  If you already have a career plan in mind, you may also find it useful to check university prospectuses, available through the UCAS website, to research the required A Level subjects for the university courses you are interested in.
